Development Manager

We are looking for a skilled Development Manager to oversee and manage the organization's fundraising efforts with a focus on foundation fundraising. This is a full-time position in a rapidly growing organization.

Amazon Watch (www.amazonwatch.org), an organization with over a decade of experience working to defend the environment and rights of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin, is seeking a Development Manager to manage our fundraising efforts. This is an exciting position at Amazon Watch that will be best filled by an organized, ambitious, strategic and motivated person who believes strongly in the importance of our mission to defend the rights of indigenous peoples and protect the Amazon rainforest. The Development Manager will be lead and coordinate the fundraising team and report to the Executive Director. Although foundation fundraising will be the predominate development strategy, a limited portion of this position will also be spent in support of individual donor outreach and fundraising events.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, retention and stewardship strategies.
  • Write grant proposals and manage renewal/reporting process.
  • Assist with planning and executing fundraising special events and individual donor outreach.
  • Maintain development database.
  • Participate in the development of messaging strategies and materials for outreach to Amazon Watch supporters and the general public.
  • Prepare annual development work plans.

Required skills:

  • Three year’s experience in development, preferably for an international, human rights, and/or environmental organization
  • Highly organized; a planner with strong attention to detail, excellent project management skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals
  • Strong ability to think Òbig pictureÓ and plan accordingly while attending to daily details
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Experience successfully preparing budgets
  • Desire and ability to make a minimum 2-year commitment

Salary: : Commensurate with experience. Amazon Watch offers health, dental, chiropractic, and a matching 403(b) retirement plan option or dependent health benefits.
